Seminar on  “ICT in Support of  Municipal Administrative Development:E-Municipalities”

Municipal Development Association is a non-profit NGO specialized in Municipal work and laws in Lebanon and the Arab countries. It performs studies and research on economic, social and administrative infrastructure of the municipalities aiming at enhancing and improving the Municipal performance. MDA’s main themes are attaining sustainable human development, promoting decentralization and improving the quality of living for citizens in Arab cities.

 

After its International Symposium on “Relationship between Central and Local Administration” on 23-25 September 2002, the Municipal Development Association (MDA) is organizing a Seminar in Beirut Lebanon, entitled “e-Municipalities”, on February 28th 2004, in Hotel Monroe –Beirut in collaboration with the Office of Minister of State for Administrative Reform in Lebanon and Arab Urban Development Institute (AUDI). Our audience is mainly the Lebanese Municipalities and also the Arab countries.

 

The objective of this event is to raise awareness about the concept and implementation of  “e-municipalities” and encourage Lebanese municipalities to adopt this concept, and spread the concept throughout the Arab World.

MDA believes that the implementation of e-Municipalities will increase the interactive levels between the Central and Local governments. This interaction will also enhance citizen participation in their local governments and Municipalities in Lebanon and the Arab World.

 

The main topics of discussions in the Seminar are as follows:

First topic: “Introduction to e-Municipalities” –– Dr. Raymond Khoury

Second topic: “ Legal Matters in the Implementation” –– Dr. Mohammed Alem

Third topic: “ Management of Change and Capacity Building.”–– Dr. Michel Chalhoub

Fourth topic: “Software Demonstrations”

Fifth topic: “ Experiences of e-municipality” (Lebanon, Finland, Canada, Oman, Jordan,

Germany(GTZ)…)

 

The majority of participants in our seminar are from  Lebanese Municipalities in addition to ARAB and European cities and municipalities. We are aiming at providing awareness for E-municipalities to the Arab World,our audience is therefore from more than 20 Arab countries.
